Ice Cream anyone?

Logan feel in love with an ice cream cone pattern in my crochet book, so I made him one. We thought the varigated yarn for the ice cream would be fun.

Logan enjoying his ice cream!
Biting the bottom off the cone as he always does with his ice cream cones.

The weiner dog is done! I'll try to post pictures of it tomorrow.

In other news, Logan was in a karate tournament yesterday and took second in sparring! It was an exciting day. You can see the videos here if you are interested, the videos called Logan sparring WOMAA.

A visit to the farm

We went to visit our friend out at the farm a few days ago. It had been a few months since we had been there, which is a shame since she is so close.

We were there the day these turkeys arrived. They've grown so much! I really think turkeys are pretty.

Logan bottle-fed the front sheep and the back sheep when they were babies. They are so beautiful now, I love the horns.

This is Senate, the lamb Logan was working with back in April. She is as un-friendly as always.

Logan walking around with the sheep.

One of the momma's with pretty flowers in the background.

Back off sheep! These are MY hens.

Roosters are beautiful too!

An Award

I got this cool award from Melody! Thank you.

I'm supposed to pass it on, I don't usually pass awards on because usually by the time I get them everyone else has too. But I haven't seen this one on other blogs, so I'll pass it on to a few other blogs.

Children in the Corn

Laughing Orca Ranch

Life on a Southern Farm

Foodshed Planet

Mud on the Tracks

Don't feel bad if you aren't on my list, if I read and comment on your blog then I love it.

Disembodied dog head

I've been working on my crocheting, particularly the weiner dog for Logan. Here is the head:

Kind of freaky huh? I've finished the body and 2 of the legs also. Just 2 legs and a tail to go! I hope to finish it tonight.

We went out to our friend's farm today so I made this egg for her last night. She's our egg source.

I thought this picture of Logan holding it was adorable.

What we've been dealing with

I thought some of you might be amused by some of what we've been dealing with here.

We've had 7 people not buy our house because the washer and dryer are in the basement! They loved everything else about the house, but the laundry placement was a deal breaker. The funny thing is, in this neighborhood, to get the laundry upstairs you had to get substantially smaller master bath. We actually have the upgrade in this situation. To make things even funnier, we've had 4 people not buy our house because the master bath was too small! We actually had one person buy another house because she liked the cabinets in the other house better. Our house was in better shape and had a much nicer lot, but apparently the cabinets were her thing. I really don't understand people's priorities in buying a house.

In good news (?), all the houses in this neighborhood that were already on the market when we went on the market have sold. It has to be our turn soon.

17 weeks, 60 showings and counting!

Crochet update coming soon....

Banana tree

I thought I'd do an update of my miniature banana tree. It has loved the heat we've had lately!

Here it is yesterday:

Here it was back in April. I think it is time for a bigger pot!

Crocheting

Before anyone is overly impressed with my teaching myself to crochet, crocheting is WAY easier than knitting. If you can knit, you can crochet easily. And I had to rip the mouse out many times before it was right. The weiner dog I'm working on now has been even harder and I've had to start over a number of times.

It is fun though.

Amigurumi

I've been on a quest for over a year to make cute stuffed animals. I tried sewing them and knitting them on the loom but I wasn't really happy with anything I made. Then while searching for knit patterns I discovered amigurumi, which is the japanese art of crochet stuffed animals. All the ones I saw were so cute! Only problem, I didn't know how to crochet. So I got a kid's crochet book out of the library as well as an amigurumi pattern book. On Monday, I taught myself to crochet and made a little square. On Tuesday, I learned how to do increases and decreases and made a wavy head band. On Wednesday, I learned to do double crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch and a few others. And I started my first amigurumi, a little mouse.

I finished it last night. I think it is really cute and turned out well. It was pretty hard at first but once I got the hang of it it wasn't too bad. I'm currently working on a weiner dog for Logan. I'm still working on some cross-stitch too.

Pressure canner question

I'm seriously considering getting a pressure canner for my birthday which is in 2 weeks. I've been looking at them online and there are many to choose from.

So, my question:

What type of pressure canner do you have and are you happy with it?

There is a huge difference in prices so I'm wondering if the more expensive ones are worth it.

Chicken cross stitch

I finished my chicken cross stitch. I think it turned out cute. I'm going to start working on a whole series of farm animals that will be made into ornaments.

Hungarian Paste Tomatoes

I got my first ripe Hungarian Paste tomatoes this week! Aren't they pretty with my cat in the background? My Amish Paste are covered with green tomatoes so hopefully I'll have some of those ripe soon too. The sweet olives are still producing ripe tomatoes every week. Those are the powerhouse of the tomato world.

Echinacea

I took this picture in my garden this week. I like it. I've been ignoring my butterfly garden this summer but I'm trying to change that. It has really started blooming in the last few weeks.

OLS

Wow, it has been a week since my last post! Sorry. Logan and I were out of town for 3 days and it seems that it has taken me 3 days to recover from the trip.

Here was our most recent all local meal. I'm really falling down on the challenge this summer, but I'm doing my best.

We had french toast on homemade honey wheat bread.

The honey, eggs, milk and maple syrup were all local. The wheat in the bread wasn't local.
