What we've been dealing with

I thought some of you might be amused by some of what we've been dealing with here.

We've had 7 people not buy our house because the washer and dryer are in the basement! They loved everything else about the house, but the laundry placement was a deal breaker. The funny thing is, in this neighborhood, to get the laundry upstairs you had to get substantially smaller master bath. We actually have the upgrade in this situation. To make things even funnier, we've had 4 people not buy our house because the master bath was too small! We actually had one person buy another house because she liked the cabinets in the other house better. Our house was in better shape and had a much nicer lot, but apparently the cabinets were her thing. I really don't understand people's priorities in buying a house.

In good news (?), all the houses in this neighborhood that were already on the market when we went on the market have sold. It has to be our turn soon.

17 weeks, 60 showings and counting!

Crochet update coming soon....

Hang in there - your house WILL sell. It WILL be your turn. You WILL have your farm dreams come true!

I can't imagine! If the only thing I didn't like about my house was where the washer and dryer are I'd be thrilled!

It will sell. It will sell. It will sell!

We went through that last year. People want the house they find to be SEVERELY move-in ready, as defined by them. We lost sales due to paint colors. I like to call them idiots, but that's just mean.

Pine Pod - Thanks. It has been over 4 months already.

Farm Mom - I wouldn't mind so much but we've had like 6 houses in our neighborhood cut in line! We had one sell before they even got the For Sale sign up. It was a couple that was seriously thinking about making an offer on ours then this one came on the market and it was bigger so they bought it instead. I didn't think it was very nice to cut in line like that.

Farmgirl - I know it will happen. The waiting is just so hard.

Seasonseating - Tell me about it! Even the house we are planning to move into in GA isn't perfect. We actually don't like where the laundry is in that house. You find the best you can find and you make due or change what you can. People don't seem to understand that nowadays.

Jimmy - I've called them much worse...

It will be your turn soon! I know all the waiting is the hardest part. Sending you good house selling juju!

I'm sorry you haven't sold yet!
How about you sell me your basement and put the washer/dryer in the garage. We don't have basements in the southwest (clay and bedrock). We store all our crap in our closets, our clothes in dressers and just pray when tornadoes come through.

Ceecee - sounds like a good plan! We've lost a number of potential buyers because our basement isn't finished. Too bad they don't realize how lucky they are to have a basement. I personally prefer an unfinished basement because you can use it for storage and don't have to clean it.

It is amazing how picky people are these days. They want everything perfect the first time around. I agree with jimmycrackedcorn, people are just idiots.

Mom - We've had 2 more people rule out our house because of the laundry in the basement. We are looking into the possibility of moving it to the garage if someone wants that. I'm starting to think people are crazy. We had a showing over the weekend rule us out because the carpet upstairs is old. We'd replace it if they asked us to. DUH!

Hang in there Christy! I agree about people being weird in their house priorities, especially when so many details can be changed.

That's what contracts are for, too. They are wonderful negotiation tools. Don't like the carpet or paint, ask for a lower price to cover the cost to replace.

Location is the most important thing to prioritize.

Thinking positive selling thoughts for you! :)

Twinville - You would think that would be the case, but doesn't seem to be. No one has asked us to do any of the things they are rejecting our house for, they are just moving to the next one where the things are already done.

We seriously had someone choose the exact same model house on a worse lot, in a worse location because they had their laundry upstairs. They didn't even talk to us about moving the laundry, just picked the worse house because the laundry was already where they wanted it.

Our lot backs up to woods, it is one of the few in the neighborhood. The other house backs up to 5 other backyards, and the yard is half the size of ours. We can walk to the school and park without crossing a road, it is a 15 minute walk from this other house. But they have their laundry upstairs. Got to have our priorities you know!

I know exactly what you are going through. We had people turn down our house before we moved here on so many different things, things I loved about the house. Then..one day this lady came and loved everything about it. A month later we were right here where we are now. That was almost 15 years ago.
Hang in there, your lady, couple, gentleman, or family is just around the corner too!
