After getting the biggest egg I've ever seen on Saturday, I got the smallest egg I've ever seen yesterday.
It is so small it fits in the cartoon sideways. The one above it is a bantam egg.
Comparing it to an average egg.
Isn't it cute? We haven't cracked it yet so I don't know if it has a yolk or not. I'm guessing not.
Here are some weights for those that like numbers:
Midget egg - 0.75 ounces
Average bantam egg - 1.2 ounces
Average standard egg - 2 ounces
Large egg - 2. 4 ounces
Massive egg from Saturday - at least 3 ounces!
Life is never boring on a farm.

Wonder who laid that tiny egg? Maybe the one that laid the whopper - too sore to lay anything bigger. LOL
I love unusual eggs!
We have two new girls who haven't laid yet-I can't wait to see what we get.
Love those tiny eggs -will you dry it out and save it? My smallest egg ever was .2 oz. I put it in our sunny window to dry and now I can hear the little pebble of a yolk rattling when I shake it. It's just the cutest thing!
That reminds me of our bantam eggs we used to get or the first egg a new chicken lays - it is so much fun! I am looking forward to having chickens again very soon.
is it a guinea egg?
Your eggs are just so PRETTY! All my eggs are brown, despite the fact that we were told several of our hens were Americaunas. And they have fluffy faces, but brown eggs... Hmmmm...
My chickens are still young - right now my average egg is 1.4 oz. They've been getting bigger and bigger every week. Every now & then we get a 1.7 or 1.8 oz. My smallest was .2 oz, I have it saved in a sunny window to see if it dries up like Danni says! And just yesterday my guinea hens started laying speckled eggs! So much fun!

0.2 oz is really small! I wonder if I weighed mine wrong. I don't know if it is a guinea egg. We have 5 guineas, I have no idea if they are boys or girls. They are old enough to lay and we've never found a guinea egg. So maybe?
Those first eggs are usually small. Cute, but small.
I'm with Linda M, maybe had to recover from the big egg, ouch. LOL
I've been getting the super small eggs from one of my old hens. Once cracked open, the yolk is not formed properly. I remember the tiny ones from when they were just beginning to lay, too.
