Aerogarden

I'm sure everyone has seen ads for these things. I wasn't going to get one, but my Step-mom did and never used it. So, when I was up there visiting for Christmas, she gave it to me. Thanks Marilyn. I figured why not give it a try, especially since it is so bleeping cold out there.

Logan and I started the pods last Saturday. It is really easy to set up. You fill the bottom with water, it takes about a gallon, add 2 nutrient pellets and put the pods into the holes. You then push the button for what you are growing and it does the rest. It takes care of the lights and tell you when to add water and nutrients.

This is what it looked like right after we started it.

2 days later we had germination.

4 days later.
Today, 1 week after starting.

I'll keep you posted on how things go. Oh, we're growing salad greens. The pods are a bit expensive, but the ones I'm using were given to me with the Aerogarden. I'm not sure I'll buy more, but I guess we will see what our harvest is like.

Thats cool! I am sure you could figure out a way to replace the pods with out buying more! In the mean time I know for us it would be nice to see some Green!!

I think I saw somewhere how to reload the pods with your own seeds. I'll have to see if I can find that again.

What a wonderful treat to have a fresh home grown salad in the winter! It looks like it's going to be a great success.

I am very curious to see how it works. I kinda wanted to try one, but the cost held me back. If you can figure out the homemade seed reloading, that would be pretty awesome. Keep us posted!

Can't wait to see these in a bowl! They will taste like something, not like nothing this time of year.

Cool! I'm not sure you'll get enough greens for one salad with those tiny holes they're growing out of.
Still, I like the idea and the device itself is attractive.

Could you plant seeds in your own pods? Looks like a cool setup except for the cost of pods

That's neat! I have seen them in magazine ads but always thought it was a little suspect. Looks like it works after all! I suppose I could do something similar with my plant lights in the basement where I start all my seeds. It's remembering to water it that gets me every time...

I look forward to seeing how it goes. I like to see if things that look great on TV work as well in real life. It seems like a fun thing to do in the winter!

I grew hundreds of seeds for my garden under grow lights (we have to start that stuff in Feb-Mar), but never once thought to grow some lettuce. Maybe I'll add that this year, too.

Wondering how much greens it will be to be cost effective. Electricity is very expensive here...my light bill is $400 a month and I have oil heat.

Wow! They sprout much faster than typical greens. Are the pod seeds genetically modified?

Interesting process.
