Miniature fruit trees

I'm finally getting around to posting the promised pictures of the miniature apple tree. It was dormant when I got it so it wasn't much to look at, but it is waking up now.

It is about 3 feet tall now.
Here is a close up of the leaves that are starting to develop.

I also got a miniature banana tree. It is very small right now.
They are both supposed to get to be around 5 feet tall. And both should fruit next year. I got them both from Henry Field's. I got them there because they sent me a coupon for $25 off an order of $50.

I've also started growing sprouts. My first batch is ready and delicious!

Can I harvest the whole thing and put them in the fridge to eat over the next few days? I love sprouts!

I love your miniature trees. Ah, the first sign of Spring - leaves on a tree. I also love sprouts, never tried growing my own though.

Yes, you can refrigerate them and eat throughout the week. Yay for you!! Trees and sprouts!

Ron - I used mung bean.

Farm mom - Great! I'll harvest them today and put them in the fridge.

looks like the one thing I CAN grow without a garden may be sprouts! do pass on any tricks or tips for growing those lovelies.

and also, wow, I want a mini apple tree. can they remain indoors and be healthy, happy plants or do they eventually need to go out side?

and ps...is farm mom YOUR mom and does she really farm? how freakin' awesome, special, and lucky are you two to share that bond...

i did some research only to learn that indoor citrus trees, like any other plant, need 8+ hours of sun. there are two spots in our apartment that get...maybe that much sun and right now the potted jades and aloes are already fighting for that space...

sigh.

my garden attempts for this year are thwarted at every turn.

Such modest beginnings. How exciting to follow along as they grow and produce.

The sprouts already look yummy!

Erikka - You can easily do sprouts and microgreens. I haven't tried microgreens myself but Danielle did and even did a post on them. A good place to look and get information is Sproutpeople.com.

And, no Farm mom's not my mom. I actually think she is younger than me. But she is a mom and she does farm. So that's cool!

Hi! I am enjoying your blog and wanted to check with you to see if it's ok that I posted a link to it from the site for the "Delmarva Locavores" yahoo list (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/DeLoca/). I hope you'll consider joining as well! Please email me at tanama44 at aol if you'd prefer that I not post the link.

Leslie, that would be fine to post a link and I'll check out the site. It sounds really informative.

I have 4 miniature citrus trees that go on the back deck in the warm weather, & come inside for the cold weather. (Tangerine, Orange, Lemon, & Lime.) This is their second year,(they were just little bitty plants last year when I got them) & I already have 1 lemon! I really didn't expect any fruit whatsoever until the 3-5 year mark. I would really love to try some others, like your apple & banana. I would also like to try Dwarf Pomegranate, Patio Blueberry Bush, & Coffee plant.
