Farm naming scheme

Not the name of the actual farm, we haven't decided on that yet although we are creating a short list. This is our scheme for naming animals on the farm.

We've fostered many kittens over the years and have found that we really don't enjoy coming up with names so we thought having a system would make things easier for us. So, here is the agreed upon naming system for the farm:

Pets (dogs, cats) - named after mountains, both of our current cats are named after mountains so we will stick to that for pets

Poultry - named after plants

Livestock - named after things in space (planets, moons, constellations etc.)

Any animals being raised for food - not named, or named things like bacon, T-bone etc.

Another picture of the new house will be coming Monday.

I like your naming scheme. I think waiting until you move into the new house and get the feel of things is one idea about naming the farm. Wait and see what kind of a feel you get from the place and then go with that.

Great ideas! I've always named my guinea pigs and other pets after food names, unless another name just fit better.

Like our manx cat, whom we adopted in Arizona. With her little nubby tail she reminded us of the unique javalinas that we'd see in the front yar, while staying at our friend's ranch near Tucson.

I thought I would name all our livestock after Indian Pueblos before we moved up here to our ranch, but then oddly enough, the animals just named themselves.

Sometimes if you wait a bit, the animals TELL YOU what they want to be named. Sounds odd, but just wait. You'll see :)

By the way, how 'bout naming your farm:

"SueƱos de la Granja"

It actually means 'Farm Dreams' in Spanish.
Probably not the most fitting, seeing as you'll be living in the deep south. haha :)

Your dreams are finally coming true, Christy!

Oh! And I almost forgot. I just wanted to tell you thanks for the wonderfully supportive and kind comments you left for me on my blog, concerning my son's injury.
It is much appreciated, my friend :)

Take Care,
Lisa

Most of my chickens are named after beautiful movie stars with class.

What Lisa said about animals naming themselves has always been true about our dogs. I have this weird idea that they'll let me know what their names are.

Lisa- I like that idea for a farm name. Maybe not the spanish version but something like that.

I'm not good at waiting for animals to tell me their names. We usually have names picked out before we even get the animals.

Almosta Ranch is a cool ranch name. Ous is At The Farm but my husband has added Circle W for his cattle.
I love special names. Our first miniature born At The Farm became "Walking Small AT The Farm" with a barn name of Bufford.
Keep thinking and the perfect day will show itself.
Good Luck!
