The girls are good

They made it through the night and were happy to see me this morning. Kudzu let me pet her a little.

It was so cute, when I went out this morning, they were locked in the coop part and it was silent. As soon as I said good morning girls, they started clucking. It's funny how they know they are supposed to be asleep until I go out there. I'm going to put some more bedding in the coop to make sure they are warm enough at night.

Adventure girl - a few months ago I was jealous of everyone that had chickens, so I understand!

Lisa - I did it! I'm much calmer now.

Ceecee- I've heard the buffs are great.

It was so cold here this morning, only 16 degrees, that I found 2 very frozen eggs in the coop! I think getting your first official farm animal has to be exciting!! I so enjoy my chickens.....so when are the goats coming?:)

Kristi - Goats will wait until spring. I think most are bone in Feb. here, so maybe March.

Kyfarmlife - Mine is a homemade one out of a dog kennel too. I put a tarp over it and put a lot of pine bedding in the kennel so they could cuddle down into it. You may want to check Craigslist and see if you can get your current chicken a friend. They can help keep each other warm.

Yay!!! So happy you finally have chickens! They're lovely. I love buffs. And Logan's right to spend time with them, they'll get more friendly, particularly as they mature and reach egg laying.

We sure had a cold spell down this way too.
I was worried about all the chickens and calves, but everyone was fine.
We had record lows here.

The Buff Orpingtons are such a gentle chicken, even the roosters.(so far)
