Lovin' on the girls

The girls have gotten so much friendlier. Whenever we go out there, they crouch down and press themselves to the ground for petting. I don't know much about chickens, but I think they think we are roosters and are "presenting" themselves. We can easily reach down, pet them a bit, and then pick them up. They don't seem to mind being held. They make little noises but don't flap around or anything. And they don't run when we put them down. I can't believe they were 5 months old when we got them and scared of people. They are such sweeties now!

Wrensong - Aw, thanks! I think they just know how much we love them.

Kristi - I'm sorry. Wait until we are burning up in the summer then you can rub it in that you aren't.

Girl! is that real green grass? or the artifical stuff?

Yes, that's how the hens act when the rooster comes around. Funny that they crounch down like that for y'all. Are they Buff Orptington's?

I think it is probably their way of acting submissive (you know, like how a dog rolls on its back for its master?). They must totally trust you & Logan.

It's real grass. Amazing isn't it? And they are buff orps.

Hey Chicken Sister!! They love you and respect you and feel safe. You're right about the thinking you are roosters. I bet they are really close to laying!

Good thing you got your new coop. I wouldn't be surprised if find an egg very soon!

I'm so excited for you!

And I loved the pics of you and Logan. I can remember sitting outside with a cup of tea with my chickens. One of my favorite things to do....

Great Pictures! My hens were that way when they were that age. They still on occasion let me give them some luvin. Since they started laying eggs they still follow me and greet me when I get home from work but, do not let me hold them like I used to.
